Crown & Kin was never meant to begin and end with midlife. We are building for the entire court.
For our teens, who are navigating their own hormonal initiations, we envision cleaner support for skin, gut health, emotional balance, focus, beauty, and self-care. They deserve alternatives that honor their changing bodies without pushing them toward cigarettes, weed, synthetic smoke, or products never designed with them in mind.
For our infants, we are developing gentle, vegan-based, pronounceable vitamin formulas and foundational support for the earliest years of growth. Clean, trustworthy care for the beginning of the journey.
For our elders, we honor bodies that have carried wisdom, work, family, grief, and joy. You deserve comfort, mobility, rest, and daily ease through natural support that respects aging rather than punishing it.
For our Kin in recovery, we continue the heart-work that began with my brother. Crown & Kin will explore plant-based rituals, nervous system support, and restorative practices designed to bring calm, reduce noise, and walk alongside healing journeys. These offerings are not replacements for medical care, therapy, or professional recovery support. They are companions for the road: gentle, grounding, and free from judgment or humiliation.

CROWN & KIN WAS BUILT OUT OF NECESSITY
About the Founder
My name is Yolanda Hughes, and my journey to Crown & Kin began in the quiet but very loud season of perimenopause, and in the profound experience of supporting someone I loved through recovery.
At 49, I found myself searching for answers my doctors did not seem prepared to give. My body was changing in ways I could not ignore: weight shifts, mood swings, exhaustion, brain fog, unexplained aches, and a deep sense that something within me was asking to be understood, not dismissed.
I soon realized I was not alone. The women around me were experiencing their own versions of change, but no two stories looked the same. The men around me were changing too, though many did not have the language, space, or permission to talk about it. What I saw was a gap: in medicine, in wellness, in culture, and in care.
Those questions became part of my Ph.D. work in Health Sciences, where I began studying menopause through biology, lived experience, and the lens of Black culture. Along the way, I found myself inspired by the story of Henrietta Lacks and the enduring legacy carried through her cells, as well as the teachings of Dr. Sebi and his reverence for holistic healing. Their stories affirmed what I already felt in my bones: our bodies hold history, wisdom, resilience, and possibility.
At the same time, I was seeking natural, grounding support for my sibling’s recovery journey. I wanted rituals, blends, and care practices that honored the body instead of overwhelming it. I wanted support that looked beyond the symptom and made room for the mind, the nervous system, the spirit, and the person behind the pain.
That is why this house is called Crown & Kin.
Crown & Kin was born from both truths: the need for wellness that respects our changing seasons, and the desire to build a legacy rooted in love, lineage, and lived experience. It is care fit for a kingdom, shaped by my own journey back to myself and by my devotion to the people I love.
Now, at 55, I stand in the glow of what I have learned: a stronger body, clearer energy, deeper wisdom, and rituals that sustain me. And though my sibling is now with the ancestors, I remain committed to honoring his journey by helping our Kin find healing paths that nourish the whole body, mind, and spirit.
What I know now is this: wellness is not just a routine. It is a return.
A return to sovereignty over our bodies. A return to trust in our own knowing. A return to care that sees us fully.
